Introduction (Draft)
'Urban Beach Combing' is a series of conceptual site-specific assemblages consisting mainly of found objects in the London area where I live, in W9. 'Site specific' because each group of objects assembled had to fit in the confines of a small cardboard box.
Each set of objects were picked up, or rather 'chosen', impulsively (in the same way that words are prompted when writing a poem or a diary) as ephemeral treasures, qualities, to inhabit a home. They were collected over a period of a few days, for their aesthetic impact, their inherent texture, colour, and formal qualities, and their resonance in terms of potential dimension as semiotic 'signs' when interacting with others within the space they were destined to inhabit.
