"One Dimensional Man"
(1964) is the title of a book by Herbert Marcuse (b. 1898-d. 1979).
Marcuse was a member of the Frankfurt School of Critical
Theory "In Marcuse analysis, public and corporate
officials, and the mass media, utilize a "one-dimensional language"
to smooth over social contradictions and problems, and thus restrict
thought and public discourse to the terms and interests of the established
society" ... "Throughout One-dimensional Man and his
other writings, Marcuse contrast one-dimensional with dialectic thought,
resistance and refusal with conformity and submission, and projections
of a freer and happier social order with the present one".
