'Reflections at the Edge of a Black Mirror', Assemblages

Introduction


These recent assemblages are a personal attempt to address and explore our current global moment – a moment in which we are simultaneously more digitally ‘connected’ yet more emotionally alienated from each other than ever. A moment which, to many, feels apocalyptic and unrecognisable.
The cast of characters across these assemblages teeter on the reflective earth’s surface; they are stranded on desert islands of their own making: together yet isolated. These assemblages are about relationships: human relationships as well as man’s relationship to the environment. Which may lead to our ultimate disappearance as a species? The wrath of nature or man-made nuclear war? And is there a ray of hope lying in the power of self-reflection?

'Reflexiones al borde de un espejo negro'. Assemblages 2017

Estos ensamblajes recientes son un intento personal de abordar y explorar nuestro momento global actual - un momento en el que estamos simultáneamente más conectados digitalmente, pero más que nunca emocionalmente alienados los unos de otros. Un momento que, para muchos, se siente apocalíptico e irreconocible.
El elenco de personajes a través de estos conjuntos oscilan sobre la superficie de la tierra que los refleja; están varados en las islas de un desierto de propia fabricación: juntos y sin embargo aislados. Estos ensamblajes versan sobre las relaciones: las relaciones humanas, así como la relación del hombre con el medio ambiente. ¿Todo lo cual puede conducir a nuestra última desaparición como especie? ¿A la ira de la naturaleza, o la guerra nuclear hecha por el hombre? ¿Existe un rayo de esperanza en el poder de la autorreflexión?
