Homage to Kafka, Orwell and Marcuse, 2003
In his new "Homage to Kafka, Orwell and Marcuse" series, Guillem Ramos-Poquí draws his inspiration from writers such as the Austrian novelist Frank Kafka (1983-1924): "The Trial", "The Metamorphosis"; English author George Orwell (1903-1950): "Nineteen Eighty-Four" (published in 1948); and the German philosopher, Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979): "One-Dimensional Man" (published in 1964).
These recent digital photomontages are subtle in colour and rich in the use of creative conceptual and formal devices, playing with unexpected juxtapositions of perspective and scale, and the artist's masterly use of visual poetic tropes and embedded images. These works have alluring and intriguing qualities, they address issues such as freedom and human emancipation in the midst of the alienating aspects of our contemporary global society and culture, reflected more than forty years ago in the prophetic visions of the aforementioned writers to whom he gives homage.

En su nueva series "Homenaje a Kafka, Orwell y Marcuse", Guillem Ramos-Poquí se inspira por los escritos de autores como el austriaco Frank Kafka (1983-1924): "El proceso", "La metamorfosis"; el escritor inglés George Orwell (1903-1950): "Mil novecientos ochenta y cuatro" (publicado en 1948); y el filósofo alemán Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979): "El hombre unidimensional" (publicado en 1964)
Estos recientes fotomontajes despliegan gamas de colores sutiles y son ricos en el uso de recursos creativos conceptuales y formales, articulando yuxtaposiciones inesperadas de perspectiva y escala, y el uso magistral de tropos poético-visuales y de imágenes incrustadas. Estas obras tienen cualidades tanto seductoras como intrigantes, plantean cuestiones sobre la libertad y la emancipación humana en medio de los aspectos alienantes de nuestra sociedad y cultura global contemporánea, reflejados hace mas de cuarenta años en las visiones proféticas de los autores mencionados, a los que brinda su homenaje.

Aquests recents fotomuntatges despleguen gammes de colors subtils i són rics en l'ús de recursos creatius conceptuals i formals, articulant juxtaposicions inesperades de perspectiva i escala, i l'ús magistral de trops poètics - visuals i d'imatges incrustades. Aquestes obres tenen qualitats tant seductores com intrigants, plantegen qüestions sobre la llibertat i l'emancipació humana enmig dels aspectes alienants de la nostra societat i cultura global contemporània, reflectits fa mes de quaranta anys en les visions profètiques dels autors esmentats, als quals brinda el seu homenatge.
